We Enjoyed It While It Lasted!

Well we enjoyed Spring for the four days it lasted. We played outside with the neighbors, went to the park and rode bikes all last week. Then on Saturday morning we woke up to snow!!! Not much snow but enough to put you in a bad mood:( So luckily I took some pictures while we were able to play outside last week. We took a walk this morning and there were snowflakes falling. Hopefully it will warm up soon so we can go back outside and have some more fun!

I could shovel all day!
This is so much fun!

F Is For Fish

Lucy has two sets of flashcards. One set is the alphabet and the other set is about having good manners (which I love)! She loves for us to look at her cards with her. She especially likes the letter D card because it has two of her favorites, dog and duck. And she always goes crazy with the letter F card because it has a picture of a fish. She loves making a fish face whenever she sees a picture of a fish or a fish in tank. I laugh everytime!
Here you go Daddy

I love this card!

Tea for Two

My Mom and Dad gave Lucy the sweetest little Irish tea set. I put it on a shelf in her room and for some reason was saving it until she was a little older. Two weeks ago she saw it and was quite curious. I opened it up and we have had tea parties every day since. She loves her tea set. She is very careful when we get it out. She gets the tray out first and then places all of the pieces quite gently on top. She always pours me the first cup. She carries it over to me and says"hot". She then pours herself a cup, taps it against mine and says "cheers" (at least she says her version of cheers). She is very careful putting it away and knows exactly where all of the pieces belong in the box. I'm so glad she found the tea set as we are having so much fun with it.

Postcard Exchange

Lucy is in a postcard exchange with girls from around the world who are from the same orphanage where she lived while in China. Lucy was the only girl in our travel group who lived in her particular orphange, therefore we didn't know anyone else with a daughter from Yihuang. So it has been fun hearing from all of the sweet girls from her SWI. Some of them have sent pictures and they all tell us about their families and all of the the things that they love to do. Lucy has received postcards from, London, Spain, Belgium, Sweeden, Canada, and throughout the U.S. Everyday when the mail comes we look to see if there is another postcard. She gets very excited when there is a new one. We spread them out on the table and she picks them up and "reads" each one. She kisses the pictures of all of the girls. I plan to put them in a book for her as a keepsake.
I like this one

Home for 9 Months!

It is so hard for me to believe that we have been home with Lucy for nine months. As I say every month it has just flown by. This months anniversary is a bit of a milestone as Lucy has now been with us longer than she was with anyone else. She spent the first three months of her life with a foster family and the following six months in her orphanage. And now she has been with her mom and dad for nine months. It makes me so happy to see her thriving in her new environment. She seems to love her surroundings and is quite happy and comfortable in her new home. She is so well adjusted and has made such progress since we have been home. When I now watch her walking (running) around the house and seeing her curiosity blooming it is hard for me to believe we came home with a sweet little baby and we now have a sweet little girl who is growing up before our eyes. I love everyday with her. She makes us laugh and smile and we could have never imagined what happiness and joy she would bring to our home.

The following are a few of her favorite things:
  • Loading and unloading (sometimes at the same time:) the dishwasher.
  • Washing her hands - I must say it is a bit of an obsession. She loves washing her hands. We were at mass and she saw the Holy Water font and plunged both hands in and started washing. We were in the exam room at the doctors office and she insisted on washing her hands along with her pediatrician - I could go on and on about her handwashing- hopefully it is just a phase. I guess there could be worse things.
  • She loves to color pictures with her new crayons
  • She LOVES her bath - she could stay in the tub forever and fill her cup, pour it on her tummy and do it all over again and again
  • She loves her new backpack and will not leave the house without it. When I grab my keys, she grabs her backpack.
  • She loves to run.
  • She wants to walk down the stairs instead of crawling down backward. She counts each step. (Mind you she doesn't know her numbers but she says the same words every time)
  • She is a daddy's girl and runs to the door every time he comes home yelling Dada. She then hugs him around the knees and laughs out loud.
  • She points to every plane she sees and yells "daddy" and then blows a kiss to the plane. (I think this is a sign that Daddy travels a bit too much for work:)

Our favorite thing is being parents to Miss Lucy! These have been the best nine months I can ever remember! We love you Lucy!!!
