Grapes!

Lucy loves to eat and she especially loves grapes. We were having a friend over for dinner the other night and I was trying to finish up in the kitchen. I gave Lucy a small bowl of grapes to keep her occupied while I was busy. She sat on the stairs and ate her grapes quietly. In the meantime I set out some food in the living room - one of the items was a cheese tray that had grapes on it. I was still working in the kitchen when I realized I hadn't seen Lucy for awhile. I went in the living room and she of course was eating all of the grapes off of the cheese platter. I told her to stop but she kept sneaking in there and helping herself. It got to be a bit of a game, and she thought it was oh so funny. I would ask her if she had the grapes and she would continually say, "no" with grapes in her mouth and then laugh out loud. I must say I thought it was funny as well.

Eating her bowl of grapes

Sneaking into the living room
Caught in the act
Having another
I don't have a grape in my mouth mom
I'll be safe in my hiding spot

Oh No, Mommy sees me
Yummy!
One in each hand!
Here Daddy I will give you the littlest one that I can find
I want more grapes!!!!

Independence!

Lucy is getting quite independent (could also be described as quite stubborn:)). She has started to play on her own, look through her books by herself and is insistent on feeding herself. She does not want us to help her in any way. This has been going on for awhile - but she is finally getting more food in her mouth than on the floor. I have taken to buying the thick and creamy yogurt which doesn't even spill when you hold it upside down while open!

Home for Seven Months!

I'm a week behind on this post. I can't believe we have been home with Lucy for seven months. It is so hard for me to believe that we came home with a baby and we now have a full blown toddler! Lucy is changing before our eyes. She is so busy and doesn't stop for a minute. She is so curious and gets into everything. She is still a girl of few words. The words she says are very clear. She definitly knows what she wants though - she just can't always tell us which leads to a lot of frustration for her. We continue to work on her words and we will see where we are next month.

Last week I thought about something that our niece Abby said to us not long after we brought Lucy home. Rich and I were talking to her one day and with her little hint of a Texas accent she said, " I bet your home was really boring before you got Lucy." We laughed partly because it was Abby and she is a riot and partly because of a child's perspective. She thought we must have had a really boring life without children. Now at night after I have put Lucy to bed, picked up her toys, put away her books, find little things that she hides around the house, sweep the kitchen floor for the 10th time, think about all of the things she and I have done that day- I think to myself maybe we did have a boring life before Lucy:).

As I do every month I will list the things that Lucy loves right now:
  • She loves to brush her teeth and she has to hold her tube of toothpaste while she brushes
  • She loves to throw her pj's down the clothes chute every morning
  • She loves the book HUG. It is a book about a little monkey who wants a hug. He looks all around for someone to hug him until his mommy finds him and gives him a big hug. There are 3 words in the entire book, Hug, Mommy and Bobo (all of which Lucy can say). She reads along with me. When we get to the part where his mommy hugs him she yells HUUUUGGG. When we finish the book she puts her arms around my legs and puts her head on my lap and yells HUUGG. If I were writing my list of things I love - this would be number one!
  • She loves her little hiding space in the dining room
  • She loves to dance and spin
  • She loves to laugh out loud at something she thinks is really funny and cover her mouth with her hands
  • She loves squeezing our noses and saying honk honk
  • She loves raising her milk glass and clinking it against ours and having us say cheers!

Needless to say we love everything about Lucy!

I love brushing my teeth

Lucy's Beach Adventure

We enjoyed a great time at the beach - Lucy loved it all! She loved the sand, the sun and the water. A few of her favorite things were:
  • Chasing the seagulls - which she referred to as ducks. Every morning when we got to the beach she would see the seagulls and yell - DUCK! She would then proceed to chase the "ducks" down the beach.
  • She loved searching for seashells all day long with her daddy
  • She loved digging in the sand and filling her buckets up
  • She loved the sandcastles that we would make
  • She loved having her own little chair all to herself
  • She loved when we filled her buckets with water and she poured it all out
  • She loved having her treat at the beach
  • She loved running up and down the path to the beach
  • She loved saying hi to everyone she saw

What we loved was having Lucy with us on our vacation. We love our vacations and I never knew they could get any better - but Lucy proved to us that a vacation with her is better than any vacation we have ever had before.

(I took lots and lots of pictures as it was the first time I was able to use (practice with) my new camera outdoors- and because I especially love my subject. You can click on any of the collages to enlarge the images).
